One of Cuba’s oldest traditions is the Cañonazo ceremony—a cannon fired every evening for some 350 years. Originally a signal to close the city walls against pirates, it is now a dramatic nightly ritual at 9:00 PM.
Optionally arrive earlier (around 6 PM) for dinner near the fortress, then explore San Carlos de la Cabaña before the ceremony begins.
